Letting Christmas Find You

What if Christmas really was about the anticipation of God with us? What if everything we did during this season, what if it all pointed to that one moment....

Christmas is the crescendo of our story, of God's story...

the story of God with us. Love begins its search, seeking out its lost treasure, asking that first question that love ever asked of the first man to ever walk the planet...

"Where are you?"

That whisper, his whisper, it draws man out from the bushes, out from hiding. In shame we hang our heads, thinking that in anger love demands to know where we've been, why we went missing....

but that is not at all why love asks where we are.

Love asks where we are because love yearns to have us back. Throughout scripture, those pages of our story, we see love constantly seeking us out, looking for us...and now, in this season, we see love abiding with us...

becoming us.

Our family is beginning the journey through Advent today. We aren't doing anything fancy or complicated because, well, who needs more complication in their life? We are simply going to journey through the story of Christmas, lighting candles along the way and coloring printed, paper ornaments to hang on a tree. We will start at the beginning, where it all started, where this great God asked that first question of Adam and Eve.

"Where are you?"

The story is messy and if we are going to receive the gift of Christmas then we need to know the whole story. Even though it's messy and full of drama, the story has a simple theme, and it is evident from beginning to end...

Love finds us.

That is the crescendo of this story...his story. Christmas is that moment, that pause in the turning of the pages, when we can stop and just stare, in awe of what we are receiving. We don't have to do more work to make Christmas better. We don't have to put on a display to make Christmas happen.

We can just be...

and let the gift of Christmas find us...

I pray that love finds you this Christmas, friend. I pray that you will take a step back, look at the whole story, and stand in awe of what is unfolding before your eyes. I pray that you will take joy, take delight, in receiving the best gift ever given...

the gift of God...

with you.
